When I was in my early twenties, before I married, my cousin Geoffrey who was a horticulturist introduced me to orchids. I built a small greenhouse and filled it with orchid plants mainly from Mansell and Hatcher (an orchid nursery at Rawdon near Leeds, no longer operative). When I married I sold my orchid collection to another grower, A.J.Keeling near Bradford (still operative but not advertised).
More recently, since many hybrids have become available and appear to survive well in our central heated homes, Jean and I obtained a few Phalaenopsis plants. Since losing my wife I have started to add a few others
